Siti Hasmah served as wife of the prime minister for 22 years, during Dr Mahathir's tenure as Malaysia's 4th prime minister from 1981 to 2003.

Today, she is still never far behind as Mahathir makes his way to speaking engagements around the country as Pakatan Harapan's prime ministerial candidate for GE14.

Siti Hasmah shared that this time around, due to their age, she has placed a greater emphasis on not overworking themselves.

"Back then, I was 55 and I had the energy to keep up with him. Now, we are in our 90s, we have to really watch our health."

The 91-year-old medical professional revealed to reporters at the PKR headquarters that she has been keeping an eye on his schedule to ensure that his health is always prioritised.

"We try to keep late events at intervals," she said, adding that, "It is important to meet people and attend events. But now, we have to be selective because we are no longer young," reported Straits Times.

However, Siti Hasmah admitted that Mahathir has had little choice but to endure late nights as polling day fast approaches, according to Free Malaysia Today.

Despite her concerns about Mahathir making a political comeback at this stage in their lives, Siti Hasmah is committed to being by his side

Mahathir's wife of 62 years revealed that, "He said it's very simple. It is his duty to the country and to Malaysians to become PM7 if they wanted him to do so," reported Straits Times.

"So, if it is fated and God willing, he will do his job. And I will be the first one to support him," she said.
